Adobe Acrobat is currently the standard of the planet for creating image files that can be shared with others, for archive and reference, for web and for print.
In addition to simply viewing an image, there are a multitude of options that organizations find of value, ranging from restricting modifications, to editing and annotating pdf documents, combining multiple documents, dirculating documents for comments, digital signatures, and converting pdf documents to Microsoft Office documents.

The final step in this is the potential use of Adobe’s Livecycle product in the Enterprise, which is a large scale tool for acquiring and managing information throught the lifecycle of the information, and making that information available to corporate applications.
New in the mix is the Adobe Acrobat cloud version, where you pay a monthly fee for the right to use the software, have the option to store your work in the “cloud”, instead of or in addition to your desktop computer. To encourage the use of this cloud based model, Adobe has made available additional functionality they are calling “Forms Central” and are expanding their cloud offering under the name Adobe Document Solutions.
