Audio Conferencing

As the "Time to Market" constantly decreases, and the need to communicate with people in various geographies increases, the use of audio conferencing continues to grow. When one individual is in each location, the good old telephone is the perfect tool. When we have groups of people in one location, however, the analog speakerphone is not such a good tool. Almost everyone has attended a meeting with a Polycom in the middle of the table, which improves the ability of individuals at the far end to understand what you are saying

Today’s trend is to digital devices that use sophisticated electronics to improve the intelligibility of the audio from group meetings. Because the telephone has been with us for a long time, it uses older technology that provides the most important, but not all of the frequencies in speech. Capturing those additional frequencies increases our ability to understand what the other party is saying especially with larger groups and multi-national calls.

Polycom is at the forefront of wideband audio and large group electronic systems. Call or e-mail DeVore to learn more or for a free trial of Polycom equipment.

Acoustic Echo Cancellation
Although it only benefits the listeners at the far end, it is an essential part of an audio and video conferencing system. It prevents the audio coming from the far end over the speakers in the room being returned to the far end by the room microphones.

Gated Microphones
In a large room with many microphones, if all the microphones are "on" they pick up substantial paper shuffling, chair squeaking and room noise. Contemporary devices can "gate" the microphones so only the microphone of the person speaking is "on", without creating "odd" sounds on the call.

Noise Cancellation
The best equipment allows for the removal of background noise such as Air Conditioning systems, laptop and projector fans, etc.
