Client Challenge
Direct payments compensate teaching hospitals for overhead
costs related to Graduate Medical Education (GME), salaries
and fringe benefits for residents, teaching physicians and
GME administrative staff.
To receive these payments, a teaching hospital must accurately
manage all aspects of resident schedules in order to apply
the necessary business rules needed for Medicare reimbursement.
DeVore worked closely with the Department of Finance to carefully
detail all business processes related to GME management.
Project Solution
The challenge was met by creating a
web-based scheduling system that allows each department to
submit resident schedules.
The schedules are then forwarded to the finance department
and/or GME administrator for final approval.
The GME administrator then runs the finalized schedules through
the system which in turn applies all business rules and properly
formats the file for electronic submission to Medicare.
The new systems efficiency and accuracy netted the hospital
a gain in their reimbursement dollars that has added up into
the millions.
